THIS WEEK: One Bald Diva, Three Legendary Divas
and Six "La Nueva" Divas
. . .The following day, Bald Diva, an absurdist style
parody inspired by the Eugene Ionesco classic play titled The Bald Soprano, opened with a bang. Diva was a fresh
and fruity take on the Manhattan queer scene, complete with party games, steam-room encounters, beauty secrets, seasonal cocktails
and house boys. Kudos to director Jason Jacobs, playwright David Koteles and actors Tim Cusack, Gerald Marsini,
Anthony DiModica, Terrence Michael McCrossan, Jamil Mena (who played a hot bare- chested fire chief) and Matthew Pritchard
(whirling out an interpretive dance with the energy of a high-speed veg-o-matic) for this fantastic and innovative theatrical
experience.

We also trekked up to Columbia University for Bald Diva, a
project in the schools M.F.A theater program. Though not a holiday play, the queer Diva put us in merry spirits. Inspired
by a 1950s Eugene Ionesco play called The Bald Soprano, this absurdist style show offered a completely fresh
take on the contemporary urban gay theater experience. Think Waiting for Godot meets Will & Grace as staged
on Eighth Avenue, complete with gym bunnies and house boys. Kudos to director Jason Jacobs, playwright David Koteles
and actors Tim Cusack, Peter T. Downey, Julio V. Gambuto (playing a hot shirtless fireman), Kenneth Lee, Gerald
Marsini (turning it out with a bizarre interpretive dance) and Erick C. Thorsen. We hope this inventive production
makes it downtown in the New Year.
